"Dj Disbelieve, aka Cook County Juvenile Probation Officer Wade iverson, has released what will perhaps become one of the most important sound recordings of the early twenty-first century with "Out of (our) Content." NEW CITY
"DJ Disbelieve asks the listener to know what it is to be part of a world you might not know about…This cd presents sad and ugly truths about Cabrini-Green (RIP), and the issues surrounding "Out of (our) Content" are very complicated, but Iverson, through these recordings hopes to help make people aware of how large scale, urban housing for the poor only creates more problems than it solves. The interactive photo documentary on the disc is almost sobering enough on its own." LUMPEN

about

Released in an edition of 300 in 2000, Out of (our) content takes the listener on a journey into the housing projects, schools, and phone messages of a Juvenile Probation Officer in Chicago. Field recordings were made with a handheld cassette recorder throughout Cabrini-Green and its environs. These were then combined with incidental music and audio samples to create a sound tapestry that earned critical praise and surprise from listeners, and even a condemnation along the way.
The Cd-rom (modern technology back in the 'OO's) contains a 12-minute montage of photographs that Iverson made, not without the permission of the Gangster Disciples one morning. In April of 2000 the photographs and video were given a gallery show in Chicago, and later displayed at Empty Bottle in Chicago.

"I am profoundly grateful to have had the opportunity to work as a Juvenile Probation Officer in Chicago from 1990-2004. To get to know these neighborhoods and the residents who lived there, to try and provide some energy of positivity... it was a privilege, and an experience that forever shaped my life." WHI

REVIEWS:
"So there's very little music on it, but DJ Disbelieve, aka Cook County Juvenile Probation Officer Wade Iverson has released what will perhaps become on of the most important sound recordings of the early 21st Century ... composed mainly of recordings made in Cabrini-Green with odd sonic trappings and the occasional short burst of music, creating an absolutely--and it I've ever used this word before, I've never meant it as much as I do now--haunting oral experience... this is nothing short of captivating". NEW CITY

"Using tapes made in the socially engineered disaster area of Chicago's Cabrini-Green Housing Projects, Wade Iverson, aka DJ Disbelieve, presents a soul-shriveling audio portrait of a community slowly going nova... this compassionate, uncompromising document makes the average double platinum hip hop album come up short by comparison" THE WIRE (UK)

"An album of field recordings of the human condition that comes across like an album of field recordings of wildlife... the issues surrounding Out of (our) Content are complicated, and asks the listener to know what it is to be part of a world you might not know about. In this case, the world of poverty, housing projects, urban violence, and a socioeconomic structure that keeps the impoverished firmly entrenched in a social strata concurrent with the wealthy firmly supported by in their own separate social strata. These are issues that the listener has to deal with in their own time. DJ Disbelieve hopes to make people aware of how large scale, urban housing for the poor only creates more problems than it solves. The interactive photo documentary on the cd is almost sobering enough on it's own". LUMPEN
